The
Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports Project (WWDSP),
a partnership between the Wounded Warrior Project,
and Disabled Sports USA and its chapters, has
offered an unprecedented number of sports opportunities
to our wounded service men and women across the
country in 2006.
Thanks to our sponsors
and chapters, more than 340 Wounded Warriors and
their families have participated in a record 35
events so far this year (as of press time), with
over 25 more events planned.
Highlights include:
two Grand Canyon Rafting Experiences, offered
by National Ability Center, Utah, and Challenge
Aspen, Colorado; the Endeavor Games, UCO
Disabled Sports & Events, Oklahoma;
O&P Extremity Games by College Park; The Hartford
Ski Spectacular; and participation in numerous
ski programs in collaboration with 14 chapters.
WWDSP also will
be kicking off the I Can Do It; You Can Do It
sports mentoring program expansion, training Wounded
Warriors as instructors and volunteers of existing
disability sports programming. WWDSP will be ensuring
that Wounded Warriors being admitted to the new
amputee center located at the Balboa Navy Medical
Center in San Diego, as well as other centers,
have full access to programs offered.
Thank you to all
who have participated in this busy and successful
year so far. As well as sponsors Marine Corp Celebrity
Invitational and Non-Commissioned Officers Association
(NCOA). If your chapter wishes to take part in
WWDSP 2007, or for more information, contact events@dsusa.org.
