Ohio Willow Wood Launches Lightweight, High-Activity Foot

TDuraLite Foothe newest prosthesis from Ohio Willow Wood is the DuraLite™ Foot, designed for amputees who want a lightweight foot that performs for active lifestyles. The foot is best suited for amputees classified as a strong U.S. Activity Level 2 or 3.

The key to the prosthetic foot’s lightweight yet strong, durable design is its composition of carbon fiber. The DuraLite Foot weighs a little more than 12 ounces and its lightweight performance in daily activities such as yard work, gardening, and hiking as well as jogging, has received high marks from patients involved in clinical testing.

The DuraLite Foot has a urethane toe pad that enhances medial/lateral motion; its split heel offers stability over uneven terrain; a Stair Guard is included with each foot and can be attached directly to the foot’s chosen proximal adapter, however, when achieving the foot’s minimum clearance range of 5.9 inches with a ¾-inch heel height, the Stair Guard must be removed.

Each foot also comes with three heel wedges, which are used to adjust heel stiffness to a patient’s desired needs. It’s available in two heel heights — 3/8-inch and 3/4-inch — and three-foot shell colors.

The patient weight limit is dependent on foot size, but has a maximum limit of 300 lbs.

New Iceross® Synergy Provides Comfort and Stability

Iceross SynergyThe new Iceross® Synergy by Ossur is the first liner to use the unique properties of two silicone durometers to provide a perfect balance of comfort and stability. Additionally, the Active Skin Care ingredients, which soothe and moisturize the skin, and the flexibility of the Wave feature make this one of the most durable, comfortable and flexible liners available.

Designed specifically for moderate to active patients the Iceross® Synergy offers outstanding impact protection and stability in the outer layer with shock-absorbing DermoSil® silicone, while a softer DermoSil inner layer provides superb comfort and suspension. Both of these, combined with the new Wave feature, create easy flexibility and natural movement at the knee.

The Iceross® Synergy Locking Liner with a stabilizing matrix and specific-sized distal attachment is available in 14 standard sizes and will retrofit to any Iceross standard 3-millimeter liner. It also comes with a nine-month warranty.

New Otto Bock Sensor Walk Electronic Stance Control KAFO

Otto Bock Sensor Walk Electronic Stance Control KAFOOtto Bock HealthCare in conjunction with Mayo Clinic introduces the Sensor Walk Electronic KAFO, an electronically controlled stance control orthosis. The Sensor Walk was created to allow the wearer to walk with ease, eliminating the need to generate an extension moment to unlock the joint, which provides a more natural gait and lower energy expenditure. The Sensor Walk Electronic Stance Control KAFO not only gives stability during stance phase but allows the knee to bend during swing, making it easier to clear the foot when the leg swings through. The design of the Sensor Walk enables the knee joint to unlock in late stance phase, before weight is transferred to the leading limb. Sensors in the footplate read when the patient is in late stance phase, therefore signaling the knee joint to unlock. The Sensor Walk has a 300 pound weight capacity and accommodates knee flexion contractures of up to 15°. The Sensor Walk can also be set to function in three ways: as a locked joint, stance control function, and free swing.

Proprio Foot Stands and Delivers for Amputees

Proprio FootOssur North America offers the Proprio Foot™, the latest addition from Bionic Technology by Ossur, the company’s brand for a pioneering category of prosthetic devices.

The world’s first motor powered and artificially intelligent prosthesis for transtibial amputees, the foot operates as closely as you can get today to natural, anatomical functioning. Developed by Ossur’s R&D department, the foot’s motion analysis capabilities are facilitated by real-time sensor technology from Dynastream Innovations of Canada.

Like Ossur’s Power Knee™, the Proprio Foot replaces muscle function that was lost with the amputation. The foot enables amputees to perform activities in a normal and functional pattern through sensor technology and artificial intelligence.

The Proprio is the winner of a 2007 Medical Design Excellence Award.
